Malțurile de bază sunt acele malțuri care, în general, constituie un procentaj mare din compoziția berii. Când sunt amestecate cu malțuri caramelizate, de colorare și alte malțuri aromatice, putem obține o aromă complexă. Pentru malțurile de bază, folosim exclusiv malțuri deschise la culoare.
